The Companion Who Never Walked Ahead
“The Lord never sends a soul Home alone. Every step is accompanied by grace.”
Yesterday…
I crossed the sacred Virajā. Not by my strength. Not because I had become worthy.
But because His infinite compassion carried me beyond everything that belonged to the world.
The River did not merely separate two realms.

It separated ‘mine’ from ‘Yours.’
Beyond its radiant waters…
everything had become astonishingly peaceful.
As I continued walking… the atmosphere itself seemed transformed.
The light no longer resembled sunlight. It did not fall upon the trees. It seemed to arise from within them.
Every flower radiated consciousness. Every breeze carried compassion.
Every fragrance awakened remembrance. I instinctively looked at my own hands.
For a long moment… I simply stood still. The hands that had folded before the Lord in hundreds of temples…
the hands that had lovingly carried little Āṇḍāḷ… searched for little Kṛṣṇa… offered flowers…
performed homams…and recited the Divya Prabandham… had quietly disappeared.
In their place… was a body untouched by time. No fatigue. No illness No age.
No shadow. It was not another material body. It was as though my own soul had become visible.
My radiant companion looked at me and smiled.

“My child…
this is the Aprākṛta Divya Śarīra.
Not fashioned from earth…
water…
fire…
air…
and space…
but by the Lord’s eternal compassion.
This body shall never know separation from Him.”I bowed my head. Not because I had received something extraordinary.
But because I finally understood something ordinary. The earthly body had never been a burden.
It had been a sacred instrument.
It had climbed Tirumala.
Walked the 106 Divya Deśams.

Carried flowers.
Pulled the Lord’s Ratha.
Folded before my Ācārya.
Whispered, the most powerful and merciful joyful ASHTAKSHRI
“Om Namo Nārāyaṇāya.”
How could I fail to thank it? I silently offered my gratitude.
As we walked further…
a thought that had quietly remained within me for many stages of this journey finally found its voice.
I looked lovingly at the radiant being beside me. His serenity… his wisdom…
his gentle authority… had reminded me again and again of one glorious personality.
With folded hands I asked,
“Swamy…
may I ask something?” He smiled.

“You may ask anything, my child.” “From the very beginning of this journey…
I have often wondered… are you Śrī Viśvaksena?” The moment I uttered those words…
he smiled with such affection that I immediately felt like a child asking an innocent question.
Then he gently placed his hand upon my shoulder.
“No… my beloved child.
I am not Śrī Viśvaksena.”
For a moment… I remained speechless. He continued.
“I am the Amānava Puruṣa… the one whom our compassionate Lord appoints to accompany every surrendered soul upon the Archirādi Mārga.
My joy… has been to walk beside you. To reassure you. To help you remember.
To bring you safely Home.”
Tears quietly flowed.
How many times had I unknowingly thanked him as Viśvaksena?
How patiently he had accepted my ignorance…
without ever correcting me.
I softly asked, “Then… where is our glorious Senāpati?”
Amānavan lifted his hand.
Far beyond the luminous horizon… I saw an indescribable radiance.
In its midst… stood the magnificent Thirumāmaṇi Maṇḍapam.
Its brilliance was beyond words. Its pillars seemed carved from compassion itself.
Music flowed without instruments. Fragrance floated without flowers.
Everything there seemed to rejoice. Amānavan folded his own hands.
“There… awaits Śrī Viśvaksena. The eternal commander of the Lord’s divine realm.
He does not accompany souls upon this journey. He receives them…
after they have arrived. Soon… my duty will lovingly come to an end.
His… will begin.”
I looked at him with overflowing gratitude. How beautifully the Lord arranges every stage.
One companion walks with us. Another welcomes us. The Lord never leaves even a single step unattended.
Our revered Pūrvācāryas explain that the Amānava Puruṣa is the divine guide appointed by Bhagavān to escort the liberated soul through the Archirādi Mārga. Upon reaching the eternal realm, the soul is received by Śrī Viśvaksena, the Lord’s eternal Senāpati and foremost among the Nitya Sūris, who leads it into the divine assembly.
Looking back…
I realise how often I mistook the Lord’s hidden servants.
Many whom I thought were ordinary people… had quietly become His instruments.
Perhaps… the Lord delights in remaining unseen… while His compassion walks beside us in familiar forms.
“Grace often walks beside us without revealing its name.”
“The Lord sends companions before He grants His own embrace.”
“No surrendered soul ever walks the Path of Light alone.”
Perhaps… many of the people who quietly strengthen our faith…encourage our hearts…
or gently redirect our lives..are also walking with an unseen commission from the Lord.
We may never know their names.
Yet…their kindness prepares us for eternity.
The distant radiance grows brighter.
The Thirumāmaṇi Maṇḍapam now shines before me.
Amānavan’s steps have become slower.
His sacred task is nearly complete.
Someone…
the eternal guardian of the Lord’s kingdom… is waiting ahead.
Tomorrow… The Senāpati of Eternity.
“The Lord’s compassion never walks alone.
It sends a companion…
until another waits to receive us Home.”
To be continued…
