(Part 33 .c. )  THE JOURNEY INTO LIGHT.. Musings of a Soul Returning  to Its Eternal Home

The River Begins Here

A Humble Offering on Guru Pūrṇimā and the Sacred Thirunakṣatram of Śrī Āḷavandār

“A true Guru never keeps a disciple at his own feet. He gently turns the disciple toward the feet of his Guru, until every soul finally reaches the Lotus Feet of Śrīman Nārāyaṇa.”

Yesterday…

my beloved Jagadācārya…

Śwamī Rāmānuja…looked upon me with the same compassion that had carried me through my entire earthly life.

The tiny folded  holy paper…

bearing only four sacred words—

“Śrīmate Rāmānujāya Namaḥ.”

returned to my memory.

So did the countless tears…

the prayers…the pilgrimages…

the devotees…

and the mysterious way in which the Lord had worked through His Ācārya.

I believed I had reached the source.

Today…I discovered…

I had merely reached another sacred bend in an eternal river.

Śrī Rāmānuja gently smiled.

“My child…”

“The world below calls it Guru Pūrṇimā.”

“And today…”

“My own revered Ācārya…”

“Śrī Āḷavandār…”

“is being glorified by countless devotees.”

He slowly extended His hand.

“Come.””I wish to introduce you…”

“to the one whose longing prepared My path.”

Far beyond the radiant splendour of the Thirumāmaṇi Maṇḍapam

stood a majestic saint.

He appeared like a calm ocean.

Wisdom rested effortlessly upon His face.

Yet… it was His compassion that overwhelmed me.

Before I could move…

Jagadācārya Śrī Rāmānuja folded His own hands.

With profound reverence…

He bowed. “Our  Ācāryar…”

“Śrī Āḷavandār.”

My heart trembled.

If the great Emperumāṉār bowed here…

who was I except dust beneath their feet?

I fell in full prostration.

Soft hands gently lifted me.

“My child…”

said Śrī Āḷavandār.

“There is no fear here.”

“There is only remembrance.”

His smile reminded me of someone…

though I could not explain why.

Perhaps…every compassionate Guru carries the same fragrance.

He looked into my eyes.

“My child…”

“Tell Me.”

“Have we never met before?”

I stood speechless.

“Swamy…”

“I never had Your darśan upon Earth.”

He smiled even more gently.

“Is that so?”

Then…

like lightning illuminating the night…

memories flooded my heart.

Kāttumannārkoil… Srimushanam

Śrīraṅgam…

Tirukkoshtiyur…

Kāñchipuram…

Melkoṭe…

Mudaliyāṇḍān’s sacred place…

Kūrathāzhvān’s  kooram at kanchipuram…

Kidāmbi Ācchān…

Periya Nambi…

Māraṇeri Nambi…

Ananthāzhvān…

Nadādūr Ammāl…

Piḷḷai Lokācārya…

and so many more sacred places…

One after another…

my Ācārya Yātrā unfolded before me.

Every village…Every temple…

Every humble shrine…

Every Thiruvarasu at Srirangam

Every place where I had stood with folded hands.I thought I had gone there to honour them.

Today…I realised…

they had been lovingly waiting for me.

Long before I ever arrived.

Swamy  Āḷavandār softly asked,

“Do you remember…”

“why you travelled to all those sacred places?”I answered honestly.

“To pay my respects.”He gently shook His head. “No.” My child

“The Lord called you there.”

“So that one day…”

“when you reached this Eternal Realm…”

“none of us would appear as strangers.”

My eyes filled with tears.

Every pilgrimage…

had been an introduction.

Every prostration…

had been accepted.

Every prayer…

had already reached them.

Śwamy Rāmānuja now spoke.

“My child…””Do you remember My arrival at Śrīraṅgam?”

Immediately…

the sacred scene unfolded before my eyes.

The banks of Mother Kāverī.

The sorrow of countless disciples.

The divine form of Śwamy  Āḷavandār.

Three fingers remained folded.

The young Rāmānuja stepped forward.

With folded hands…

He made three solemn vows.

To establish the eternal truth of Vedānta.

To preserve forever the glory of Sage Parāśara and Bhagavān Vyāsa.

To spread the path of surrender for the upliftment of all souls.

With each vow…

one finger slowly unfolded.

The gathering wept.

Not because of a miracle.

But because a Guru’s final wish had found its disciple.

Śrī Āḷavandār looked lovingly toward Śrī Rāmānuja.

“My child…”

“A Guru never dreams for himself.”

“He dreams for generations yet unborn.”

Then…He turned toward me.

“And today…”

“you stand within that same current of grace.” I lowered my head.

“Swamy…”

“I have accomplished nothing.”

“I only visited temples.”

“I only repeated…”

Śrīmate Rāmānujāya Namaḥ.

“I only encouraged devotees to recite the Divya Prabandham.”

“I only tried to share whatever little devotion You all had placed in my heart.”

Śrī Āḷavandār smiled.

“My child…””That…”

“is exactly how the Guru Paramparā lives.”

“No one owns this river.”

“No one begins it.”

“No one ends it.”

“Each receives one handful of its sacred waters…”and lovingly passes it forward.”

Suddenly…

the tiny folded paper returned to my memory. The little talisman.

The devotee who had pleaded for help.

His paralysed wife.The miraculous recovery.

Their tears before the Lord.

And my own tears before Jagadācārya Śrī Rāmānuja.

Today…

I understood.

There had never been any miracle in that little paper.

The miracle…was the compassion flowing through the Guru Paramparā.

I had simply become one more small instrument.

Śrī Āḷavandār then raised His hand.

Before me appeared…

not individual saints…

but a flowing river of light.

Śrī Nāthamuni…

Śrī Uyyakkondār…

Śrī Maṇakkāl Nambi…

Śrī Āḷavandār…

Śrī Periya Nambi…

Śrī Rāmānuja…

and the endless succession of compassionate Ācāryas.

The river flowed…

century after century…

until it reached my own revered Ācārya…

who lovingly initiated me into the sacred mantra…and  quietly transformed my life.

Then…I looked behind.

The river had not stopped.

There stood countless devotees.

Some from my Divya Deśam pilgrimages.

Some from Akhaṇḍa Harināma.

Some from Divya Prabandham recitations.

Some from temples.

Some from my workplace.

Some whose names I never even knew.

Each held a tiny lamp.

Passing it lovingly…

to another.

The Guru Paramparā was still flowing.

Then Śrī Āḷavandār placed His hand upon my head.

“My child…”

The Guru Paramparā is not merely a succession of teachers. It is the Lord’s own current of compassion flowing uninterrupted through generations. Every Ācārya receives divine grace, preserves it with fidelity, and lovingly passes it to the next without claiming it as his own. Thus the disciple discovers that no one ever walks toward the Lord alone.

When I undertook my Ācārya Yātrā…

I believed I was paying homage to great saints of the past. Today…I realise…every sacred place I visited was quietly preparing me for this Eternal Reunion.

The Lord had been introducing me to His beloved servants…long before He brought me Home.

“A pilgrimage to an Ācārya’s sacred place does not end when we return home. It continues until we meet him again in the Eternal Abode.”

“The Guru Paramparā is a river where every generation drinks from the same waters and lovingly offers them to the next.”

“Grace is never possessed. It is received with gratitude and passed on with humility.”

Perhaps…

the greatest blessing of our life…is not merely finding a Guru.

It is discovering…that through our Guru…the Lord quietly connected us to an eternal family…whose only purpose…

is to bring every wandering soul back Home.Srī Āḷavandār gently stepped aside.

The river of light continued flowing. From its very source…one radiant saint slowly began to approach.

In His hands…He carried a priceless treasure…the forgotten Drāviḍa Veda restored to the world. Śrī Āḷavandār smiled.

“Every river has a visible source.”

“Ours begins with one who listened until the Āḻvārs sang once more.”

Tomorrow…

Śrī Nāthamuni opens the Treasury of Eternity.

“Throughout my life…I believed I was visiting the Ācāryas.Today…I discovered…they had been waiting for me…long before I ever began my journey.”

To be continued…
